Enrichment Activities

Part of our ethos at St John’s is to ensure that coming to school is fun.  School should be fun for the children and the staff too!

Because of our belief in this, children are provided with regular enrichment opportunites, away from the school curriculum.  When you visit the school, be sure to look out for the photograph montages on the staircase of all the various enrichment activities the children get up to!

You can view a gallery of enrichment activities here.

Trips & Residential Visits

Each class goes on school visits to supplement learning in the curriculum.  In addition to that we have a whole-school visit twice a year; we visit the pantomime at the Nottingham Playhouse each Christmas and then visit somewhere connected to the whole-school project in the Summer Term.  Previous destinations we have taken the whole school to include the National Space Centre, Twycross Zoo, Sherwood ForestCadbury World and Bridlington

Children in Year 4, 5 & 6 have the opportunity for a two-night residential visit in March every year.  To ensure children don’t visit the same destination twice we operate a three-yearly cycle.  Although our plans are always under review, the current three residentials are to PGL (Caythorpe, Lincs.), Castleton and Scarborough.

The BEST Day Ever…

Each summer we let the children plan a day of treats known as The BEST Day Ever.  This rewards them for the hard work they put in all year.  The school motto is to be the BEST and so this day reflects that.  Fun and games are plenty and a picnic is usually held in the afternoon.  Mr Downes was even put in the stocks and soaked with wet sponges once!

Sports Week

Part of our commitment to sport sees us plan and deliver an engaging and challenging sports week every year.  Previously we have enjoyed meeting Olympic athletes, professional footballers and local sporting clubs, as well as conquering a 30ft climbing wall on the school field.  One of the days in this week is our annual sports day where children compete against their friends for those all important 1st, 2nd and 3rd place stickers!
